Services
- Process & Equipment Development
- Conceptual Design
- Cold Flow Modeling
- Scaleup Expertise
We are specialists in the development and design of reactors and internals for
maximizing gas-liquid-solids, 2 and 3-phase contacting to improve yields and
productivity from your present or proposed reactor, digester, kiln, adsorber,
stripper, or other process equipment.
- Material Characterization
- Aerodynamic Equivalence
- Pneumatic & Mechanical Conveying
- Bulk Flow in Bins & Standpipes
- Attrition and Adhesion
We determine the properties of your material pertinent to your application and
your operating conditions, among such as size distribution and attendant shape factor,
apparent particle density, bulk densities at incipient buoyancy and at incipient
bubbling, minimum design fluidization velocity, moisture content,
terminal and critical velocities, angles of repose and internal friction, surface tension, maximum stable bubble
size in 2-phase systems, rate of efflux through round and rectangular bin openings
and slide valves, etc.
- Particle Recovery
- Cyclones & Hydroclones
- Riser arms & Dipleg Termini
- Gas-Liquid Separators
- Granular Bed Filters - Venturi Scrubbers
We have provided cyclone designs ranging from 3/4 inch to 15 feet in diameter which
have been installed in FCC regenerators, Trona ore converters, oxychlorination
acrylonitrile and pyridene reactors, CFB's, etc. We provide drawings and leave the
choice of fabricator to you, or we can provide the completed units f.o.b. your plant
through shops with whom we have working relationships. We provide you with the complete
process design calculations (not hidden computer printouts) including predicted particle
size distributions of all streams, dipleg size, dipleg termini design, lining details and
pressure balances. We have extensive cyclone testing programs in-house and were originally
the authors of the cyclone design chapter in the API Emissions Control Manual. Pemm-Corp
also serves as the principal testing facility for one of the major U.S. cyclone vendors.
- Fluidized & Circulating Beds
- Grid Design
- Internal Baffling
- Heat Removal or Addition
- Segregation & Entrainment
Our personnel have experience dating back to 1942 in the design of industrial fluidized
beds ranging from 2 inches to 60 feet in diameter handling blood separations, FCC, iron
carbide, Fischer-Tropsch, Polyolefins, melamine, ore roasting, uranium oxides, coal and
biomass, gasifiers and combustors, sewage sludge, black liquer,
hazardous waste and a host of gas-catalytic chemical processes. We have provided, tested and demonstrated patented
grid designs for moving and removing segregating agglomerates and for fluid injection
nozzles, risers with or without attendant refluxing, as well as non-mechanical feed and
drawoff valving. We have scaled up 2 inch I.D. pilot plants to 40 feet I.D. operating
reactors. Our proven procedures for predicting entrainment rates and size distributions
incorporate all aspects of phase equilibria including operation beyond the critical velocities
of any size fractions.
- Vendor & Design Reviews
- Pneumatic Conveying
- Cyclone Designs
- Catalyst Circulation between Vessels
- Reactor Internals
We provide evaluations of design bids fully documenting the bases for our reasoning and
recommendations regarding the ability of any or all to meet your process requirements. If
you desire, we can prepare original designs not only of equipment, but for example, line
layouts, line sizes, pressure drop, compressor capacity and feeder details for any pneumatic
conveying installations.
- Fractionators, Strippers and Absorbers
- Detailed Tray Designs
- Tower Packings
- Feed Distributors - Demisters
- Cost Optimization
We can provide complete mechanically detailed fractionation and absorption tower designs
whether with perforated plates, bubble caps, packings, baffles or other internals. Our
designs have ranged from 3 inches to 30 inches in tray spacings and 9 inches to 22 feet in
tower diameter, involving air fractionators, hydrocarbon separation, deuterium exchange, gas
absorption, and powder stripping and desorption, etc. Cost optimizations balance entrainment
and back mixing with tray efficiency and spacing.
- Particle Coating Technology
Pemm-Corp has investigated and developed an assortment of particle coating techniques, and
thus is prepared to engage development and design work in this field.
- Applied Basic Research
- Analogies in Matters of Science
- Multiphase Systems
- Interfacial Behavior
We act as the research laboratory investigating the areas of interest to industry
representatives to Analogies in Matters of Science, AIMS, a non-profit corporation
whose members include Phillips Petroleum, Dupont, Rhodia,
etc. AIMS' Technical
Director was the founder and former director of P.S.R.I. from 1970 to 1988; we regard
AIMS as a form of innovative successor to P.S.R.I. based on AIMS' successes in
demonstrating identities in design correlations for gases, liquids, particulates and
their mixtures. AIMS' correlations are proprietary to members, but their use by members
is permissible in work members perform for their clients. Of inestimable value to us in
our services to you, we strongly advise all our clients to become members of AIMS.
The facilities and expertise available make Pemm-Corp uniquely qualified to perform
cold flow modeling projects as well as equipment design, in an expeditious and
cost-effective manner.
